Music

I have always been involved in the local music scene wherever I have travelled around much of Europe and I have also played with several bands.

I play the guitar and the piano and would like to start really annoying the neighbours with a saxophone. I compose quite a lot using Cubase, Ableton and Magix and I also teach the guitar to a few select students.

I've decided to put a few pictures up of my music gear too, but none of it is for sale before you ask.

Music Projects

Below are some links to my musical endeavours...

This is a rough mix of the full version of Love Is Like A Valley with Pump El Moose recorded at De Studio, Asse, Belgium...

Love Is Like A Valley - Rough Mix

This was just an experiment in rock drum programming, but I quite like it now...

Close Down Here - First Mix

A kind of retro 80's synth sound on this one...

Break My Bones

A bit of a plodding dance piece this, it's not mixed so watch out for the levels as it's very loud...

FOS4US - First mixdown

Here is another piece, a first attempt at using effects and a full mix down. No drums on this though...

Why Stay - First mixdown

The following are links to some videos of acoustic versions of songs that I have written:

Swollen River
Precious Gems
Love Is Like A Valley

These are the links to some videos of acoustic cover versions that I like to play

Angel by Jimi Hendrix
Suzanne by Leonard Cohen
Mr Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan
Wild Horses by The Rolling Stones
Why Me Lord - Traditional as played by Johnny Cash
The Beast In Me by Nick Lowe (covered by Johnny Cash)

I'm also trying to learn and compose some tunes using flamemco guitar techniques.

Ash's spaghetti guitar technique

Here's a youtube clip of the same thing, before I changed the arrangement:

Almost last but definitely not least, the marvelous Poncho Pirates on MySpace.
Below is a photo of an impromptu appearance I made with them at Zest in Hull. (I think they turned the keyboard down to be honest...)

Ash with the Poncho Pirates

And finally, a track from a long time ago, written and produced my old friend John Keyworth

Best Way (Sunset Mix)
Best Way (Jacob’s Ladder Reprise)
Best Way (Ambient Mix)
